FIELD – SOMETHING FOR THE FUTURE NOW is a durational outdoor dance happening conceived in a physically distant world and presented as part of Edinburgh International Festival on the 22nd and 29th August 2021.

With the majestic Arthur’s Seat as a backdrop, performers respond to the surrounding landscape and each other: following a series of movement and live sound scores, to dance and rejoice in being together here, now. With enough room for everyone, in the beautiful setting of Holyrood ParkField is an invitation to immerse yourself in this uplifting work and share in a sense of community and celebration. It is a durational performance that is 4 hours long, audiences are welcome to come and go as they wish during the performance time.

Curious Seed also invited two inspiring groups to make a guest appearance during Field at EIF: Dance Base’s PRIME which is Scotland's first semi-professional dance company for the over 60s and Lyra, also an Edinburgh-based company who makes live performances for and with young people.

The work also featured an ensemble of performers from Christine Devaney’s Sunday practice sessions - which are ongoing throughout the summer months.

“it leaves you invigorated, challenged, wanting to take up space with all four limbs, appreciating the sovereignty of your own body whilst celebrating with others and enjoying your freedom to move however you feel like” - Artmag

“a show about the joy of dancing…an accessible celebration of public space” - The Guardian

“The beauty of the performance was that it spoke so powerfully to the personal experience of lockdown - of being alone in public space yet grounded to our locale and our community - but it also felt like a celebration of reconnection” Fergus Linehan, Festival Director, Edinburgh International Festival
