FIELD evolved as the city of Edinburgh began to open-up again over the summer of 2020; inspired by climbing a tree, activism, and the need to reconnect with others in the same physical space.  Bringing a community together; finding new ways to dance and share all that had been building up in our bodies, minds, and hearts.  The genesis of FIELD responded to the need to reclaim and enliven civic space following so many months of lockdown and brought the creative process out of the studio into the public realm.

Curious Seed was able to share this work at the majestic Holyrood Park in Edinburgh, being one of the few live arts performances happening in Edinburgh at that time. Framed by some of the city’s most impressive landmarks, the wonderful open space of the park became the stage. There was room for everyone to be there safely, comfortably and to experience dance performance happening in Edinburgh, during what would have been Edinburgh’s Festival time.

FIELD was then invited to be remounted for the Edinburgh International Festival in 2021, where audiences experienced a larger scale version of the work, with an intergenerational cast of 40 performers. And in 2022, FIELD will have its first international presentation as part of the 25th Festival Cultura Inglesa in Sao Paolo, Brazil.

In addition to FIELD, 2021 also saw the creation of Little by Little Field, an outdoor dance work-in-progress for family audiences, presented as part of the Edinburgh International Children’s Festival Family Encounters programme.
